Paula Toby Kaufman

Paula Kaufman is the Interim Director of the Mortenson  Center for International Library Programs and Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  Prior to her current appointment she served the institution for 14 years as Juanita J. and Robert E. Simpson Dean of Libraries and University Librarian.  Previous leadership positions include Dean of Libraries at the University of Tennessee and Acting Vice President and University Librarian at Columbia University, where she also led the Services group for 6 years. 

 

Paula has served on the boards of many professional organizations, including as president of the Association of Research Libraries and president of the Center for Research Libraries.  She has written and spoken widely on issues of leadership, library value and ROI, intellectual property, and privacy.  She has been recognized with awards from the Association of College and Research Libraries, the Illinois Library Association, and the University of Illinois.

Susan Schnuer

Susan Schnuer has worked at the Mortenson Center for International Library Programs for the past twenty-one years and is current the Associate Director.  The Mortenson Center is a unique program located at the University of Illinois in the United States.  The Center offers intensive professional development programs tailored to meet the needs of librarians around the world.  

 

Schnuer has been involved in the development and implementation of professional development programs for the over 1200 librarians from more than 90 countries.  Susan has extensive experience with leadership programs. Susan has been invited to present at meetings and conferences world-wide on a full range of library-related topics.  She has been actively involved American Library Association (ALA) and the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). Susan has received awards from ALA and from the Library and Information Association of South Africa.

Geeta Malhotra 

Geeta Malhotra joined READ India in 2008; empowering rural communities on Education and Development through Community Library and Resource Centers (Centers).  READ India brings together Education, Enterprise and Community Development through these Centers.  Access to books, computers, internet and other ICT tools are part of the intensive programme with focus on sharing knowledge resources for holistic community development. READ India has set up 14 Centers in five years reaching 120,000 population.

 

Through community managed Centers, READ India focus on women’s empowerment by developing their skills for better earning and contibuting to their family’s income, in turn investing for better education of their children.

 

 READ India, READ Nepal and READ Bhutan work very closely on defining and practicing common standards for execution of the intensive programme on “Empowering Communities through Community Library and Resource Centers” with well-designed monitoring and evaluation mechanism.

William Mischo

William Mischo is Head, Grainger Engineering Library Information Center; Information Systems Research & Development Librarian; and Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC) Library. He has been a Principal Investigator on a number of digital library grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF), including the National Ethics Portal grant, several National Science Digital Library (NSDL) grants, and the Digital Library Initiative I grant.

 

He has also received an Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) National Leadership Grant, and several Andrew Mellon Foundation grants. He was also a co-PI on a Library of Congress NDIIPP program grant. Bill has published some 70 articles and conference papers in the field of library and information science and has presented at more than 75 national and international conferences, including at ALA, SLA, the NSDL Annual meeting, the Internet Librarian International, LITA National, and ASEE annuals. He served on the NSDL Policy Committee from 2003 to 2006. In 2001, Bill received the Homer I.

 

Bernhardt Distinguished Service Award from the American Society for Engineering Education Engineering Libraries Division and he was the recipient of the 2009 Frederick G. Kilgour Award for Research in Library and Information Technology from the American Library Association and OCLC.

Dr K M Baharul Islam

Dr K M Baharul Islam has been teaching and researching in the area of Education, Development, and Planning for more than two decades.  Starting his career as a faculty at NIT Silchar (1994-2002), he served a number of universities abroad and became a Reader at NCERT, New Delhi in 2002. Between 2007 and 2012 Dr Islam served as the Chairman and CEO of the South Asian Regional Gateway set up by the Development Gateway (USA). Presently he is the Professor and Chairperson of Communications area at IIM Kashipur. He also holds the position of Chair at the Center of Excellence on Public Policy and Government at the institute. He is also the Program Director of The World Bank funded Green Management project for South Asia.

 

He holds LLM in Telecom and Information Technology Laws from the University of Strathclyde (UK), MA (English) from AMU, Aligarh. He did his PhD from the Tezpur University (India) and Post-Doctorate from Asian Institute of Technology (Bangkok) on new technologies in education. Besides he has also done B.Ed. specializing in Educational Planning and Administration. Dr Islam is a recipient of Majaz Gold Medal in MA and United Kingdom Telecom Academy Fellowship. Two of his past projects in India and Ethiopia have received The World Bank’s Development Marketplace Certificate Recognition in 2003 and 2007. Very recently he has completed his second PhD in Law.
